November Report 2008
Only 6 weeks to Christmas now folks, doesn’t time fly when we’re having fun and being busy bowling helps to fulfill the need.
Well since my October 1st report we, at Almeria have certainly been busy.
During the month of October we had lots of great games whilst entertaining eight different touring sides from England.
We won some and lost some but the most important aspect of the game is enjoyment and we certainly took our fill of that.
Our main club competition during Oct is the Non Winners cup which is played for by bowlers who have not won a singles competition, anywhere, during the previous five years. After some superb bowling and close fought games the winner with a 21- 17 victory was Chris Ewer narrowly defeating Norma Pemberton. Well done everyone and a special thank you to all our volunteer markers.
On Oct 24th we had our Welcome Together Trophy, which we play for charity and also take the opportunity of saying hello again to returning bowlers from the UK.
The Snowbirds (or wading birds as we renamed them this year) won the cup this year but the main thing is that we raised well over 100 euro for MAACS.
On Nov 3rd the Joe Mc Craw singles began and by the 7th of Nov. Patsy Tonkin emerged as the winner with Ken Sykes as a very close runner up.
Most of you readers will remember Arthur Pinn.
We have a memorial shield to be contested for by any drawn mixed pairs and the names of the winners ready to be engraved on the shield this year are Colin Wright & Cath Patrick after winning a super challenge from John Barlow & Joe Pemberton.
The final snippit of information for this report is the defence of the FAB pairs championship by Terry Rodgers & Joe Pemberton overcoming 43 pairs teams from the area and winning the final in a very convincing way over John Dedman & John Coquhoun from Indalo BC.
As I have plenty do do with my various jobs, Vic Parsons will continue with future reports.
See you on the green, Joe Pemberton.
