2012 April Report
This will be your last monthly report until the start of this autumn/winter/spring season, but will of course keep you up to date on the website www.bowlingalmeria.com during the summer months of what is happening generally and competition wise.
On the 6th April we played our re-scheduled Millennium Trophy played over one day. The format was once again changed to ensure the members available had a good competition. Teams were drawn into two groups with winners and runner ups of both groups playing each other. The winners were Dave Allen, Ellen and Ben Foster of group one who beat the winners of group two, Tony Millington, Verna Bimpson and Derek Weeks. In the third and fourth playoff Barry and Mia Woods with Brian Firth of Cabrera who looked good throughout the competition, beat the Almeria trio John and Ruth Compton with Les Pratchett. Cash prizes were presented and took place on completion of the competition outside on the bar and restaurant patio, when it was very obvious that most of those taking part thoroughly enjoyed the day. A decision will be made in due course whether this competition will continue in this format.
Thanks once again to John and Sue Mannall who have now taken the reigns for the second year running the Summer Competitions which commenced on the 16th April. To maintain interest during the summer the Reliant and Eleanor Mcraw will be played over shorter periods. They have also included other competitions and activities. The full schedules will be found on the website.
The Summer Hong Kong Pairs was drawn on Tuesday 24th April by the CALB committee. Information for the start on 4thh May etc. will be available as soon as received and published on our website.
Our new carpet is being enjoyed by all and the surroundings with our new patio pergola in wood. Is looking great and will be a life saver when one wants shade. Thanks to Chris and Ray for doing these improvements and for Anthony and Shirley for financing them. Further thanks go to the snowbirds who contributed plants from their homes to put into our bowls garden, ably looked after by Jim Pike.
Yours truly with Joany arrived back in UK on 25th April but will be returning for a ‘holiday’ on 29th May for a month hoping the weather is a bit better than it is here at the time of writing.
