2013 Special Open Round Robin Rinks ( Reported by Jan Dando)

Sixteen teams from Almeria, Cabrera and Indalo bowling clubs gathered together for a two day competition on the 9th and 10th June. All the matches were played in the Round Robin stages using the number of ends won and overall shots to decide sectional winners with the four sections’ winners going onto the semi-finals.

These were then played over 10 ends as a straight knockout. One of the Semi-finals,  Mick Johnson’s team from Indalo, played Clive Taylor’s team from Cabrera.  It was a very close match until the 8th end where Mick’s squad picked up a 4 to go 10-6 ahead which made it pretty difficult for Clive and his crew to come back from.  Mick’s team went on to win 11-6.

In the other semi-final there were two teams from Indalo with Dennis Leigh and his team playing  Roy Burns’ foursome and it really went down to the wire.  It was 10 all after nine ends and the umpire was called on to measure to decide the outcome of the 10th end where Roy’s team picked up two shots to win the match with a score of 12-10.

The final therefore was between Mick Johnson, John Dedman, Linda Harvey & Keith Harvey and Roy Burns, Mo De Boer, Terry Kiggins &  Alan De Boer and at the half way stage in the 10 end final it was 5 shots all.

At nine ends Roy and his team were 6 to 5 down but Terry (a relatively new bowler) drew in two fabulous shots to give his team a handle on the money and, sure enough, that is what happened with the winners being Roy’s team.  A very enjoyable couple of days were had by all.
