This is the last Monthly Report for 2012 and as usual Joan and I are in UK enjoying life and happily all things are going well with various medical appointments completed and no major problems, but now looking forward to returning to Spain in February.
Our new illustrious Captain, Colin Wright has settled in well and coming up with fresh ideas that no doubt will not please everybody. I am sure he will make a good job in spite of the usual ‘experts’ giving unnecessary advice that most bowling clubs are blessed with, as we are!!!!! Well done Jim Pike for the last very active five years as Captain.
We currently have only four FEB members which might possibly increase in 2013 as momentum builds. Well done Sue Mannall who lost to Linda Lester from Indalo B.C. in the Semi Final of the FEB Ladies Singles. Linda went on to win the competition. Congratulations to the other half in the Men’s FEB Men’s Singles. John beat Trevor Robinson of Cabrera in the Semi’s and after an epic fight lost to another Indalo member, Derek Webb in the Final. Well done John & Sue.
The CALB Men’s and ladies Singles and Pairs Knockout were drawn and published on our website ready for play to start from the 10th December with the Final scheduled for 15th March 2013.
On the 6th 7th 9th of December the CALB Mixed Fours commenced with a very good entry of one hundred and four players from all local clubs. Our remaining team fron six who entered was led by a fairly new player, Ron Lloyd, with Ron and Thelma Gamble and Siobhan Herrity reaching the Semi-Final, but unfortunately they fell be the wayside. However we must congratulate them for getting so far. The competition was won by the Cabrera Team of Trevor Robinson, Jackie Mayhew, Gill Young and Jean Smallwood
As you know from November Report the 11 a Side Competition came to a stage where the Final was decided. This will be between our ABC Red team, led by John Fitzgerald and CAB Blue team, which will be played on January 13th.
On the 17th and 19th December John Fitzgerald organized an enjoyable insight into Crown Green Bowls. With eight drawn pairs playing each day in a competition where teams had to reach a pre-determined score. Surprize!!!! Both days the Fitzgerald’s figured in the winning pair. Monday 17th was John Fitzgerald and Patsy Tonkin and on Wednesday 19th Chris Fitzgerald and Colin Wright.
Our Christmas Lunch and Presentation took place on the 11th December. It was decided by the committee that this year we needed to do something different to encourage more members to attend. By general consensus it proved extremely successful, thanks to Sandra Bain, our new Social Secretary, together with other members of the committee. Not forgetting of course all those that attended and enjoyed a lovely Christmas Lunch. !!!!! I sent all our club computer users links to our website www.bowlingalmeria.com so you were all able to view lots of photographs of the good time we had. I know you are aware that there is lot of work getting to this point. Once again I was very disappointed with the lack of email response to this effort.
Early that morning we had a full house of sixty-four members taking part in a friendly!!!!! Competition between the Men and Ladies. dressed in a festive way. We won’t dwell on the result, will we Ladies!!!!! That’s your lot until the new year.
I agree with Sue re the ladies v men it’s no disgrace to lose by only 7 shots.
It is always nice to have a fresh approach now and then and I am sure Colin will certainly do that and can weather any moans people may have.
The Ladies were not that well beaten -only 7 points in it. Hope readers don’t think we got thrashed!!

Absolutely agree Pat

I would just like to add that the ladies felt they had to LET the men win as we did not want to upset them just before Christmas
