The Almeria Lawn Bowling Club Open Mixed Pairs – Inaugural Cup, took place on 2nd & 3rd March during wonderful sunny weather. The entries were very good with a total of twenty-eight pairs from Indalo, Mojacar and Almeria Bowling Clubs.
The competition schedule was planned for two groups playing three games each to be completed each day over a timed period, hoping to play eight ends within that time in each game. Points were awarded for win, draw and ends won. The winner would be the team with most points.
On completion of the competition the presentation was carried out on the Miraflores Patio. Before this happened, our captain, John Fitzgerald thanked all players, spectators, the bar and restaurant staff for the support over the two days. He then handed the chair to me at which time I endorsed his comments with additional personal thanks for the help Colin Wright had given me by umpiring and assisting with the administration of the competition. I then asked Ruth Compton to join me.
Ruth won this competition with Steve Grattage last year. Sadly Steve passed away during the year and I felt it would be respectful to both players if Ruth was asked to present the Trophy and cash prizes to the finalists.
The winners were Tony & Mary Mullen, second was last year’s runners up Ken & Viv Sykes. Third was Jim Pike and Joan Parsons and forth Graham & Catherine Patrick.
It was nice to see so many staying behind to support the presentation and enjoying a refreshments and a chat!!!! This report and photographs can be seen on our website,www.bowlingalmeria.com and www.bowlinginspain.complus Sol Times if space permits.
