2011 ALBC Drawn Triples Report
The ALBC Drawn Triples commenced with the first ten games of the first round played in the morning of 14th March followed in the afternoon with three byes completing the Quarter finals in the afternoon. The Semi-Finals and Final taking place a week later on Monday 21st. Once again it would have been nice to see more members taking part. This is always a very competitive competition and 2011 was no exception. Some teams who were expected to progress to the Semi-finals didn’t make it and some did.
The winners were the team, John Fitzgerald, Graham Patrick and a new bowler John Pheonix who played our Captain, Jim Pike, Alan and Pat Deacon. John’s team went out to show their hard match in the Semi’s was history. Jim’s team who had an easy game in the Semi’s found this a different story, as although they played well could not get in front at any time. This gave John, Graham and John a worthy championship win.
As mentioned above Jim, Alan and Pat had an easy ride against a strong team in one of the Semi-Finals. The lineup against them were Terry Rodgers, Mike Hendry and in form new bowler Tom Noble. They were not able to get going with the onslaught from Jim’s team. The other Semi-Final was very different when John’s team opponents featuring Graham Patricks wife Catherine ,with Ron Gamble and a comparatively inexperienced new bowler, Ann Noble, the wife of Tom who played in the other semi. John’s team had a nightmare start on the first ends and not until the fifteenth end did they really start playing in the way we are used to seeing them play. On this end they took four shots to go ahead. 14-13. On the seventeenth end John’s team were 17-13 up and Caths team requiring four shots for a play off, produced three of them. This was a disappointing end for the team, but, hats off to a gallant battle.
Yours truly presented the winners with the ALBC Trophy and thanked the many spectators who stayed to watch on a cold and windy day. This report and photographs will be found on our website, www.bowlingalmeria.com and www.bowlinginspain.com
