2011 Los Gallardos Mixed Open Rinks
Our first open competition of the year, the Los Gallardos Trophy, was played on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st January, involving twelve teams of fours, including a team from La Mata. This was played in a round-robin format of ten ends per game, split into two groups. The semi-finals played between the winners of group one versus runners up of group two and winners of group twoand runners up of group one.
The first semi-final was between winners of group one, Jim Pike,Les Pratchett,John Compton and Ann Tuplin against the formidable team of Colin Wright, Roy and Patsy Tonkin and Jim Anderson. This was a very closely fought game needing an extra end to decide the winners when Jim’s team took the honours. The second semi-final was another close game between John Fitzgerald,Graham Patrick, Catherine Patrick and Stan Brisco against John Mannall,Sue Mannall and John Burgess,Lynn Burgess. This was disappointing for John Fitz’s team with John Mannall’s team scoring three shots on the final end to take the game
Unfortunately the final was a total runaway win for Jim,Les,John and Ann, however well done to the relatively inexperienced team of John M, Sue, J John B and Lyn
Thanks to Anthony and Shirley Jackson who sponsored the competition finalists. First prize 80 Euros and for the runner ups 40 Euros. Once again thanks to Maureen Atkins for completing all the score cards.
