2012 ALBC Drawn Triples
The ALBC Drawn Triples commenced with the First Round played in the morning of 19th March followed in the afternoon with the Quarter- Finals. The Semi-Finals and Final taking place a few days later on Friday 23rd. It was good to see that we had forty-eight members making up sixteen teams, instead in the past struggling to make the numbers. This competition is always a very competitive competition and 2012 was no exception. Some teams who were expected to progress to the Semi-finals didn’t make it and some did.
The winners were the team, Colin Wright, Terry Rodgers and a fairly new bowler Mike Laight beating in the semi-final, possible on paper, the favourites, Jim Pike, Graham Patrick and Wayne Roberts. The other finalists were Roy Tonkin, Carol Roberts and Eleanor McCraw who beat John Fitzgeral, John Phoenix and Eileen Donley in their semi-final.
Roy’s team started well, taking a six shot to nil lead on the fourth end. However Colin’s team woke up and plodded steadily on, bringing them level on the ninth end at 7-7. From there on it was anyone’s game, leveling again on fourteenth end at 10-10. Unfortunately for Roy, Colin’s team held their nerve and chipped away to win by two shots. It must be said it was a fantastic Final enjoyed by all.
Jim Pike thanked the players who had took part in this competition together with all the spectators who had braved the cold winds, then Joan Parsons was asked by Jim to present the winners with the ALBC Trophy. This report and photographs will be found on our website, www.bowlingalmeria.com
