2012 Welcome Together Trophy Report

What a wonderful afternoon when fifty players turned up on a beautiful sunny afternoon on Tuesday 23rd October to play our annual competition ‘the ‘Welcome Together Trophy’
For those who do not know the significance of this day, a few words. Our members who are in Spain all year round are called the ‘Sunseekers’. The members who spend most of the summer in UK are the ‘Snowbirds’
A few years ago there was a definite us and them attitude and something needed to be done. The solution was simple and very successful when the ‘Welcome Together Trophy was inaugurated. Depending on numbers Triples or Rinks were played against each other.
Let us not get away with the fact that teams still wanted to win. In the past years there has been draws and wins for the Sunseekers. This year the teams were captained by Jim Pike for the Sunseekers and yours truly for the Snowbirds. It turned out this year that without going into score differences the Snowbirds deservedly won comfortably.
The competition in the past was held normally on Fridays when on completion of the competition all players sat down for delicious Fish & Chips or a tasty Curry. This year it was held on Tuesday and Shirley Jackson was kind enough to bring this meal forward. Thanks must go to Benjamin, John lodge and staff for the very efficient way it was supported.
Jim presented the trophy to yours truly and gave impressive words on the way the Snowbirds won. I also mentioned how nice it was to see so many members enjoying themselves and getting on ‘together’ I took the opportunity to ask members to match the support we have had today, for the Christmas Dinner and prize giving on December 11th. We hope to do something different which as you are all aware, you will be constantly encouraged to attend.
