2013 ALBC November Monthly Report.
The CALB 11 a Side reached its final stages and after six matches the last years finalists, ABC Red team, against the Indalo Red team will contest the Final to be played at 1400 Tuesday 10th December.
The ALBC Drawn Rinks which this year was sponsored by Brian White of Scottsdale Overseas commenced this month activities, where the Final was played and contested by teams made up of Roy Tonkin, Joan Parsons, Chris Fitzgerald and Liz Quintrell, against Peter Steenstrup, John Mannall, Tony Reynolds and Ben Foster. This superb game continued throughout with quality play with Roy’s team coming out the victors. Congratulations must go to all players who gave us a final to be remembered.
The penultimate club competition of the year, the Arthur Pinn Drawn Pair’s knockout competition was played over the weekend from Friday the 8th until Sunday. The Final lived up to its expectations with arguably the best men players in our club taking part. All finalist played exceptional bowls with Graham Patrick and Peter Steenstrup going ahead on the sixteenth end. Colin Wright and John Fitzgerald however, scored five shots on the last two ends winning this thrilling final. 16-14. There really shouldn’t have been a loser. The final club competition, the Palace Cup singles Handicap will be played in December.
On the 28th of November the 2013 AGM took place after the roll up and was reasonably well attended. Our Chairman, Anthony Jackson thanked the committee for the work done during the past year and gave thanks for those members who stepped down this year, namely, Jim Pike, Sandra Bain, Sue Mannall. He then welcomed the new committee members, John Fitzgerald, Vice Captain, Stuart Beetham, Fixture Secretary, Eileen Phoenix, Ladies Captain and Sandra Brown, Social Secretary.
Our Captain, Colin Wright then presented a lovely Orchid Plant to Sue Mannall on behalf of the committee and members for her dedicated work, as Ladies Captain, Fixture secretary, together with her involvement helping out with the Social Secretaries role. He then wished her good luck with her new venture at Indalo B.C.
The latter part of the meeting on any other business was largely discussing the current and future of the bowling carpet surface, without any definite decision on what will be done.
The Sunday Bonanza bowling competition that Anthony and Shirley Jackson kindly sponsored began on 24th November. The full Sunday Lunch was awarded to the Winners, John Fitzgerald partnered by Sylvia Pritchard. Unfortunately it was rain stopped play on the scheduled game on the 1st December.
We now look forward to our ‘Christmas Lunch and Prize Presentation’ which will take place after our roll up on December the 12th where at the time of writing is well supported. Please try and make it, especially the prize winners.
As there will only be a brief report for December Joan and I take this opportunity to wish all members a very Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year. Remember all the above competitions can be read in full on our website. www.bowlingalmeria.com
