2009 Federation Men’s Pairs

An entry of 25 pairs from Cabrera, Almeria & Indalo bowling clubs entered this years
competition which took place at Indalo BC from 25th to 29th Nov.

Battling through the various rounds to reach the semi-final stages were the pairings of
John Colquhoun & John Dedman plus Ken Ferry & Tony Davies from Indalo, the other semi-final was between the pairings of John Fitzgerald & Graham Patrick from Almeria against Trevor Robinson & Stuart Whearty from Cabrera.

Both semi-finals were tight affairs for the first nine ends, at this stage the teams of
John Colquhoun & John Dedman plus John Fitzgerald & Graham Patrick pulled away to qualify comfortably into the final.

The final played in cold & gusty conditions was a really tight affair with both teams
level at 4-4 after 7 ends, at this stage the Indalo team picked up 5 shots to open up a gap for the first time in the match, the Almeria pairing would not give in and after 14 ends they were only 3 shots adrift, and on the 15th end John & Graham were holding two shots with John Colquhoun only having one bowl remaining, John played the bowl of the final to trail the jack away and convert 4 shots for his team to open up a 7 shot lead with only 3 ends remaining, they held on to this lead for the next two ends which left the Almeria pairing the near impossible task of scoring all 8 shots on the last end to win, they managed to score only one shot  leaving the final score 17-11.

Many thanks to the dedicated few supporters who turned up to watch the final and had to brave very cold, miserable conditions.
