CALB Hong Kong Pairs Final Report
2014 CALB Hong Kong Pairs Semi-Finals and Final Report
The Semi-final and Finals of the above competition took place at Indalo Bowling Club on Sunday the 29th June on an exceptionally hot sunny day. Entries were from Indalo, Cabrera and Almeria bowling clubs. Entries were drawn into three groups each playing six games. The finalists were the top pair in each group and the best runners up.
Group A was won by Peter. Sands/ Doreen Sands, Group B by Barbara Davies/Barbara Ruscoe Group C by Dave Ebdon/Keith Harvey the best runners up between all groups made up the final position to take part who were husband and wife team, John and Sue Mannall from Group B.
The semi-final between John and Sue Mannall against Gerard Donck (substitute for Keith Harvey) and Dave Ebdon was a level competition until half way. Unfortunately for Sue and John, Gerard and Dave then upped their game and prevented Sue and John from scoring any shots over the final five ends, which culminated in them winning overall by eight shots.
The second semi/final featured Barbara Davies and Barbara Roscoe against the husband and wife pair, Peter and Doreen Sands. This was a one way traffic with both Barbara’s maintaining extreme pressure throughout the game. A great disappointment for Peter and Doreen who up to this game had not lost a game in the group stages.
The Final was eagerly awaited by the spectators and they weren’t disappointed. Both Barbara Davies and Barbara Ruscoe who had steam rolled their semi- finalists, continued to battle with Gerard Donk and Dave Ebdon with the same vigor. Gerard and Dave started well until the sixth end, after which Barbara & Barbara took control resulting in the girls earning a well deserved Championship win.
CALB President, Dave Jenkins thanked John Dando for umpiring and spectators for supporting the competition. He then presented cash prizes to the Winners and Runners up. For the losing semi-finalists a welcome bottle of Cava.
