2014 April Monthly Report
This is your last monthly report until the start of this autumn/winter/spring season, but will of course keep you up to date on our website www.bowlingalmeria.com during the summer months of what is happening generally together with the Eleanor McCraw and Reliant Trophies.
The 2014 F.A.B. 3-2-1 competition was held over 4 days at the Indalo bowling club the format for this is 6 ends of 3 wood triples / 6 ends of 3 wood pairs / 6 ends of 3 wood singles was played.
The two group winners competed in the final were Chris Ewer/Colin Wright/ John Fitzgerald (Almeria) against Judy Hughes/ Keith Harvey/ John Dedman (Indalo).
As the final was about to start a strong blustery wind came up and made the bowling conditions very challenging. The first 6 ends of Triples saw the Almeria team take a 15-5 lead they then went on to increase their lead in the pairs section to 21-7 and John Fitzgerald a very deserving Championship.
The Millennium Trophy took place on Sunday 6th April. We repeated last year’s format, a one day Open which will next year by popular request be a two day event, Mixed Triples round–robin competition. We invited Indalo, Cabrera and Mojacar Bowling Clubs members to participate.
The winners were an Almeria triple, Ruth Compton, David Malatynski and Maria Morley. Mike Johnson, Keith and Linda Harvey of Indalo were runners up. Third was from Indalo Derek Webb, Allan and Mo DeBoer and fourth a mixed team from Indalo and Cabrera, Doreen Hall, Peter Sands and Clive Taylor.
Two friendly triple competitions were played, a Spanish B.C,Vistabella, and East Anglia Bowling Club. The first we were not very successful but the latter was the opposite. However the purpose of these games is to have a friendly enjoyable time which was achieved and now look forward next year to see them both again.
St Georges Day on 23rd April we had our usual successful fun day when everyone enjoyed themselves, especial Robin Sparks, Eileen Phoenix and yours truly who were overall winners. Jim .Pike, our Captain of the day presented the trophy made especially by Ron Lloyd on the Miraflores patio after the competition. Everyone joined their friends and family on the patio to sit and enjoy the afternoon’s entertainment and have a very nice buffet. We used the new bowler’s wooden tables which Anthony Jackson had kindly made for us. John Lodge was his usual excellent self, hosting the day with lots of fun and games. We then had the star entertainment of the day with Matt Black, singing Rock and Roll songs all afternoon and enjoying lots of dancing and really having a marvelous day. Thank Bengiman and all kitchen / bar staff for putting the icing on the cake in the way they supported all attendees.
That’s it folks
