2008 Palace Cup Handicap Singles
This annual competition played over four days, 24th, 25th November and 1st and 5th December was very well attended with fifty percent members taking part. All players had a handicap decided on the democratic system of all members given a handicap of 0 for the best players to 8 the not so good by six of the more experienced club members. These are then individually added together and divided by that number to give the players their final handicap. All players start with this number on their scorecards and the game is then played for the first one to reach twenty-one shots.
The Quarterfinals were played on Monday 1st December with the semi’s in the afternoon. There were no surprises in the members that reached this stage with regard to the handicap ratings. The Final was played on Friday morning of 5th November.
This game between Brian Lovett playing off 1 handicap and Brian Tidswell 3 was fairly even for thirteen ends. However, he never allowed his opponent to get ahead reaching his 21 shots to Brian T’s 13 on the twenty-first end.
Second Semi Final
The game was played in good spirits with Pat Beattie, 1 handicap and Colin Wright 0, both players play for the same club, Deal B.C. in UK during the summer. Pat gave Colin a bit of a scare for twelve ends leading by 15/10.Colin, who rarely let’s anyone off the hook, then evened the score at 15/15 on the fourteenth end, reaching his, winning score five ends later.
Unfortunately for Brian Lovett who’s game was not at his usual standard, met Colin Wright at his best. Brian L was never allowed to settle losing the game at the eighteenth end.
